The Construction Income Protection Scheme (CIPS)

All employees of employers with an EBA containing a clause pertaining to CIPS will be covered for the following benifits.

Income Protection

This covers your sick leave benefits resulting from personal illness or injury outside of work hours for up to 104 weeks. Cover commences after a 28-day excess.

Temporary total disablement

Weekly benefit: 85% of pre-disability earnings to a maximum of $800 per week.

Workcover Top-Up Benefit

This insurance policy provides a top-up benefit if you suffer disablement during working hours and the disablement is covered by any statutory workers’ compensation scheme.

Temporary Total Disablement

Top-up benefit: 85% of pre-disability earnings to a maximum of $800 per week.

This top-up benefit is payable from day 28 of disablement for a maximum period of 104 weeks (or lesser period) whilst you remain disabled and continue to receive weekly benefits from any statutory workers’ compensation scheme.

Portable Sick Leave Scheme

Construction Income Protection Queensland has purchased an insurance policy that will cover any unused sick leave you have remaining when your employment is terminated. Your employer must be contributing to the insurance premiums on your behalf. If your employer is not participating in this scheme then Portable Sick Leave (PSL) cannot take over your sick leave when your employment is terminated. While you are with your current employer, that employer is responsible for any sick leave you may have under the award system.

On termination of your employment PSL obtains from your employer the number of days sick leave credits you have remaining with that employer.

NB: A maximum of 5 unused sick days are able to be brought forward into your unused sick leave credits for the period prior to your employer participating in this scheme.
