STAND UP AND BE COUNTED

Broad Construction have shown a blatant disregard for worker safety on the $40 million Mt Sheridan Plaza site in Cairns. Workers at the site were required to work inside a 5m high water tank. Broad Construction failed to provide a Safe Work Method statement and did not have any evacuation plans in place.

SUNSHINE COAST LOOKING BRIGHT

Here we are again Comrades,
It’s nearly tax time and I can’t say it hasn’t been busy.
I won’t say much about the rally,  but it was great to see such a huge turn out of workers supporting their fellow workers who are being robbed, hurt and killed on the job.

DELEGATES WIN FOR WORKERS

Comrades,
Work on the Gold Coast is looking very sparse at the moment,  with most of the bigger jobs finishing up. Carrara Stadium is now ready for the great game of AFL and the Robina Hospital upgrade is near completion.

EBA IS THE ONLY WAY

Hello again comrades,
I would like to start by congratulating all those who participated in our day of action to eliminate sham contracting. Well done to everyone who came and supported your union in tidying up our industry.

IGNORANCE OVER SAFETY

I say this with the deepest fear that ignorant people who disregard the Health and Safety

GOLD COAST HITS BACK

Hey Comrades,
We’ve had ongoing issues with the Lend Lease Gold Coast University Hospital. Before Easter we brought up issues with sham contracting on the job. It’s been an issue predominately in the finishing trades,  where work has been awarded to an EBA subbie,  who has then brought in another subbie to do work at below EBA and award rates.

OLD DOG NEW TRICKS

Well,  it’s been a busy couple of months with site safety lapses victimising workers. It’s no surprise that John Hollands is at the top once again.

Eureka flying high

Hi Comrades,

I hope this journal finds you well and unaffected by the floods or cyclone.

Unity in trying times

Comrades I hope this issue finds you safe and well after the trying times we have all been through. To those members who were affected by the floods or the cyclone all of our thoughts are with you.

Low tiers only bring tears

Wilder Constructions and Mainbrace Constructions are low tier builders who are not living up to their simple obligations under occupational health and safety standards. Neither believes in traffic  control, exclusion zones, safe and defined access and egress or edge protection – and that’s just to name a few.
