Ark Tribe Freedom!

The ABCC has shown its fangs yet again, treating our Australian construction workers as worthless criminals.

The words you expect to hear after trouble with the law are “You have the right to remain silent”, but in the case of Australian construction workers, this basic human right does not apply.

A six month jail term will be imposed on those construction workers who refuse to answer any questions asked by the ABCC.

In comparison between an Australian construction worker (who does not have the right to remain silent) and a serial murderer (who does have the right to remain silent) it becomes evident that a serial murderer has more rights than the Australian construction worker.

All unions ask, is for these laws are removed by the government. These laws separate the Australian construction worker from any other Australian. In essence all that is being asked is that we have all the basic rights as any human being, the “right to remain silent”.

CFMEU rigger Ark Tribe has been charged with failure to attend questioning by the ABCC. The rigger, and rank and file member of the CFMEU in South Australia was summonsed for questioning after a safety dispute arose last year while he was working on the Hindmarsh job at Flinders University.

Ark Tribe is refusing to answer to the ABCC demands, not because he fears he’s wronged the law, but because he fears that if he does answer to the ABCC he is being complicit with an unjust law.

“If I have done something wrong, I am prepared to take full responsibility, but I won’t be treated like some second class
citizen.”

“I’m prepared to go to court where I can be represented by the lawyer of my choice. I believe I have the right to a fair hearing.”

The BLF along with other unions are still fighting for workers rights everyday, using rallies such as May Day, Workers Day Of Mourning and countless meeting and letters to rid the industry of these unjust and unfair work laws.

Ark Tribes next hearing will be held on 11/08/09. Please show your support by not conforming to these laws and fight for your right as a construction worker and as a human being.
