As Royce Kupsch has discussed in previous journals recent amendments to QLD’s Workplace Health and Safety Act have introduced a new tool in assisting workers to ensure that the health and safety of themselves and their fellow workers is not placed at risk; Provisional Improvement Notices (PINs).

These notices are designed as formal record of a Qualified Workplace Health and Safety Representative’s (WHSR) effort to have an onsite safety issue resolved. For a WHS Rep to be “Qualified” to issue PINs they must have undertaken a training course which is specific to PINs. To achieve this two options are available:

1. If you have already completed WHS representative training you can go to CSTC and complete a 3 hour PINs course. The course costs just $60.00 but it is important to note that Section 81 of the WHS Act states that an elected WHS Rep should have all expenses for relevant training covered by their employer ;

2. If you have not already completed WHS representative training you can complete the three day course with CSTC that now includes all the information you need for you to issue PINs. Thanks to funding from the BERT Training Fund this course is fully funded for all BERT members meaning it should not cost our loyal members anything.

All courses run by CSTC are delivered by experienced trainers with on site experience keen to go beyond minimum standards and help workers with any questions they may have not only during the course but well into the future. If you would like to book into either of these courses or want assistance in any other training or safety issues please give our office a call on 07 3373 8888.
