BLF CHARITY DAY

By Kristian Whitehead

Charity day kicked off on Sunday the 7th of September. An early start to father’s day saw the first touch football match start at 9am.

This year there was plenty to grin about as the kids took to the amusement rides, farm animals and face paint, not to mention free snow cones and BLF T-shirts.

The Workers and families enjoyed the football matches and novelty events such as the wheelie bin races and the couple’s three- legged challenge.

Andrew from Swiftform said “Its one of the best organised touch football days of the year. Thanks BLF you guys are legends.”

The Brisbane Bricklaying team said “It’s a great day we’re really looking forward to the games today.
The young ones received prizes for egg races, sack jumping and sprints. The adults didn’t go home empty handed either, with the winning grand final touch football team Pryme earning themselves a few cartons of XXXX Gold to help celebrate the victory.

Northside boy Dallas said “It’s a top day for everyone, were glad to be here.”

The day continued on with over 10 thousand dollars worth of prizes to give away, plus an all day gold coin donation BBQ.

The boys from LCR said “It’s a blinder of a day, we feel confident about today’s games but you’ll have to ask us again after the first match.”

The first raffle prize draw went to a G Webster who scored himself a trailer full of camping equipment. Second place draw went to Steve Weldon who will be in great shape for the summer with his brand new treadmill. Third place winner Tai drew the win for a brand new trail bike. Sharon Smith drew fourth prize winning herself a wheelbarrow full of hand held building tools. Last but not least John Norton received a family bicycle package. Congratulations to all the lucky winners.

The raffle winners were not the only ones going home with a win under their belt. The novelty event winners were more than happy to participate in the fun games of sack racing, egg throwing and many more activities that were not only enjoyed by the participant but also by the audience.

BLF delegate Gary Owen said: “It’s an unbelievable day, everything is free for the kids; it’s exactly how it should be.”

The BLF raised a total of approximately $55,000 for the charity day so once again thank you to all who participated, it was a fantastic day and we couldn’t have done it without you.
